The file tree is empty after opening a vault

mdai indexes .md and .markdown files. Check that your notes have one of those extensions and are not inside hidden folders (names starting with . are skipped, e.g. .git, .obsidian).

  • Invalid key — re-paste the key in Settings; make sure it belongs to the selected provider.
  • Quota/billing — check your balance in the provider’s dashboard; prepaid credits may have run out.
  • Network — AI needs a connection; everything else in mdai works offline.
  • Activation needs a one-time internet connection.
  • Each key works on 3 devices. If all three are in use, mdai lists them and lets you free one from inside the app — Settings → License, then Free next to the device you no longer use. You can also free the current device at any time with Deactivate.
  • If you can no longer reach a device to free it, write to [support@mdai.me](mailto:support@mdai.me) and we'll sort it out.
  • Check for typos: keys are safest copy-pasted from the purchase email.

That is the direct .exe, which is not code-signed yet. Install mdai from the Microsoft Store instead and the warning does not appear at all — the Store copy is signed by Microsoft. If you would rather keep the direct installer, see Install for the SmartScreen explanation and the checksums.

Write to support@mdai.me with your OS and a short description. Bug reports with steps to reproduce get fixed fastest.
