How much does mdai cost?
Section titled “How much does mdai cost?”€14.99, one-time. That is the price — not an introductory offer that goes up later. The license covers all future updates on up to 3 of your devices. No subscription — there is nothing recurring for us to charge you for: no sync service to run, and AI runs on your own key.
How does the trial work?
Section titled “How does the trial work?”15 days, full features, no account or email needed. When it ends, editing locks until you enter a license key — your files are never locked: they are plain Markdown on your disk, and reading, copying and opening them elsewhere always works.
I lost my license key
Section titled “I lost my license key”Your key is in your Paddle purchase receipt email. If you can’t find it, write to support@mdai.me from the email you bought with and we’ll resend it.
Can I get a refund?
Section titled “Can I get a refund?”Yes — full refund within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. Write to support@mdai.me or use the receipt link from Paddle, our merchant of record. If something is broken for you, write to us first — most problems are fixable quickly.
Why “bring your own key” for AI?
Section titled “Why “bring your own key” for AI?”Three reasons: privacy (your text goes directly to the provider you chose, under your account — no middleman server reading your notes), price (you pay provider rates, typically cents per day, instead of a padded AI subscription), and control (switch providers anytime, set your own spending limits).
Does mdai work offline?
Section titled “Does mdai work offline?”Yes, fully. AI actions need a connection (they call your provider), but writing, tasks, and everything else is local. Nothing phones home.
How do I open .md files in mdai by default?
Section titled “How do I open .md files in mdai by default?”Installing mdai does not take your .md files away from whatever you
use today. It adds itself to the list, and leaves the choice to you. To
make it the default, tell your system once:
- macOS — right-click a
.mdfile, Get Info, under Open with choose mdai, then Change All… - Windows — right-click a
.mdfile, Open with → Choose another app, pick mdai, and tick Always use this app - Linux — right-click a
.mdfile, Open With, pick mdai and choose the option that sets it as the default (the exact wording depends on your desktop)
Double-clicking a file while mdai is already open adds a tab to the window you have — it does not open a second one.
How do I sync between devices?
Section titled “How do I sync between devices?”Put your vault in any synced folder — iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Syncthing. mdai is built to coexist with sync tools: it detects external changes and never silently overwrites them.
One condition, and it matters: keep the folder downloaded on the device — “Keep Downloaded” on macOS, “Always keep on this device” on Windows. If the provider leaves your notes as online-only placeholders, every file has to be fetched over the network before mdai can open it, and a large vault will crawl.
mdai vs Obsidian / Typora?

What happens if the project dies?
Section titled “What happens if the project dies?”Your notes are plain files — nothing to export. The app is a one-time purchase that keeps working; license activation is verified once per device, not continuously.
