mdai for Windows
Two ways to install, both the same application and the same licence. It runs for 15 days without a license and without a card.
Before you pick a folder
The first time you open mdai it asks where to keep your notes.Don’t pick Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Videos, Music or Favorites.Windows protects those folders against apps writing into them, and mdai cannot yet tell you when it has been blocked — it simply opens empty, with no notes and no message. A subfolder inside them does not help: the folder gets created, but writing into it is still blocked.
Pick anything outside that set, for example C:\Users\<you>\mdai or a folder on another drive.Not C:\ itself — writing to the root of the disk needs an administrator. If mdai has already opened empty, choose File → Open Vault… (Ctrl+Shift+O) and point it somewhere else.
Microsoft Store — recommended
Get mdai from the Microsoft Store
Microsoft signs the Store copy, so it installs without a warning, and Windows keeps it up to date on its own.
Direct installer
Rather not use the Store? Download the installer (.exe) instead.

Windows will warn you about that installer — not about the Store version. We would rather tell you now than have you find out mid-install: the direct .exe is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen. Click More info, then Run anyway. A signed build is still on the way; the Store version has already landed.
Verify your download
This matters most here: the direct .exe is not code-signed, so the checksum is the only way to confirm the file is the one we published. Run certutil -hashfile <file> SHA256 and compare it with the value above. The full list, including the files the updater uses, is in SHA256SUMS.txt.
